The position holder will be responsible for leading and executing the organisation’s communications strategy, ensuring the organisation’s mission and work are effectively communicated to key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and the general public. S/he will oversee a team of communications professionals and work collaboratively with programme staff, leadership, and external partners to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan that builds the organisation’s brand and promotes its impact.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the organisation’s mission and goals.
- Oversee the production of high-quality communications materials, including press releases, newsletters, reports, and social media content.
- Ensure that all communications are consistent with the organisation’s brand and messaging.
- Manage the organisation’s website and social media platforms, ensuring that they are up-to-date, engaging, and effective.
- Work closely with programme staff to develop and implement communications plans for specific projects and initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, partners, and stakeholders to promote the organisation’s work and increase its visibility.
- Oversee the organisation’s crisis communications plan, ensuring that the organisation is prepared to respond to any negative publicity or crises.
- Monitor and analyse communications metrics to measure the effectiveness of the organisation’s communications efforts.
- Manage a team of communications professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure that all team members are meeting their goals and objectives
- A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or any related field.
- A post-graduate degree will be an added advantage
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in communications or public relations, preferably in the development sector.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful communications strategies.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience managing social media platforms, website content, and other digital communications tools.
- Knowledge of best practices in crisis communications.
- Passion for and commitment to the organisation’s mission and values.

The client is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to providing humanitarian aid and development support in Nigeria. They operate in various sectors, including health, education, livelihoods, WASH and emergency response. They work in collaboration with local communities, governments, and other organisations to achieve the intended mission.
