How To Manage Two Types of Clutter

The Devil Wears Clutter

In its simplest form, clutter is anything that is messy or untidy in your space. It typically manifests in two forms.

  1. Physical clutter
  2. Psychological clutter

None is more important than the other but that doesn’t undersell their individual ability to cause stress, fatigue and even depression. Pretty sure no one wants that.

Physical clutter is the more obvious of the two. These are seen in your home, your work desk, your car, your opened (and often forgotten)tabs and basically any jargons in your living space. You may think that this doesn’t apply to you but this list of things that qualify as clutter will prove you wrong.

  1. Items that are simply rubbish — ready to be tossed into the bin! (out of date items, broken items, items not used any longer)
  2. Items that are out of their usual home, lying around (wrong room, wrong space etc…)
  3. Items bought that are not useful or necessary for your life (unwanted gifts, items bought in error)
  4. Items that belong to someone else

Psychological clutter is pretty much on the inside. It is not as easy to detect as physical clutter. It can be anything that is in your mind that stops you from functioning to your optimum. What are you feeding your mind? Who are your friends and what are they telling you? What are you watching? Are you learning?

Get rid of people in your life who bring you down, life’s too short for that kind of negativity. Resolve any issues that you know cause tension. Eat right. Sleep well. Relax.

Taking care of yourself should not be optional. Sometimes, you just need to put yourself first.
